First of all, my apologies for our lack of keeping this blog updated. If you've been wondering what has been going on in our lives for the past few months, wonder no more! Karen is still in school...I've still been working...and Abby has still been chasing her ball around. I know I know...we have exciting lives. Don't be jealous. HA!
Anyways, we went to the Houston rodeo last night with some of our small group members. The rodeo is always fun because of the cute farm animals you get to see, the putrid smell of freshly soiled hay, and most importantly, the low-fat low-calorie fried foods (HA! yeah right). Here is a list of what we ate and the calorie count:
- 2 turkey legs - 2272
- 2 jumbo corndogs - 750
- 1 foot long hot dog - 470
- nachos - 861
- funnel cake - 760
- fried pickles - 200
- bloomin onion - 1320
- burger - 680
- bbq sandwich - 705
- fried oreos - 800
- fried snickers - 444
- fried cheesecake - 655
- 3 drinks - 450
TOTAL = 10367 calories!
I must say that is pretty impressive for 5 people. Needless to say, I felt kinda sick after we left the rodeo. Man..I'm going to miss it. :) My favorite picture below:
WOO-HOO! It's basketball season once again...and this year, we will get out of the 1st round of the playoffs! I'm just hoping this influx of talent will all mesh together. Time to get the Rockets gear out in the Liu household. GO ROCKETS!!
Don't you ever feel like you need a vacation right after you get back from a vacation? We got back from Seattle and Vancouver a few weeks ago and it was a blast, but tiring There was so much to do (and what I really mean is that there was so much to EAT!) and so much to see. I was pretty exhausted when we got back..and I had to work the very next day. I think our next vacation will have to be more relaxing...maybe something like an all inclusive resort where I don't have to do anything but eat and lay around. hahaha. Anyways, we had a great time in those cities and we got to see Jason and Theresa in Vancouver. The food was awesome and the weather was incredible. Here are some pictures from our trip.
So last night, our dog, Abby, was found rummaging through a bag here in the apartment. We found her eating some of a half-eaten granola bar...that sneaky dog. But we were concerned because we also found some medicine lying around the bag and were we afraid she might have eaten some of the pills. So we decided to induce Abby to vomit...poor dog. We had never done it before so we were kinda nervous. So this is what we did...
First of all, we went to the net to research the best ways to make your dog barf. We found out the best ways to induce vomiting is to 1) give your dog 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide for every 10lbs of dog that you have (in Abby's case, that would be 4 teaspoons) or 2) give your dog 1 teaspoon of salt. Can you imagine eating 1 teaspoon of salt? But if that is relative to your body weight, that means I would probably have to eat a 1/4 cup of salt!! Disgusting! Anyways, we decided on the salt route because we thought that would be less traumatic of the two. So we took her outside (because we didn't want the vomit on our floor) with teaspoon, salt, and a barf bag in hand. We felt so bad for her, but we knew it was something that had to be done to make sure she didn't eat something that would be dangerous for her. We tried half a teaspoon at first..and right when we shoved it down her throat, she went nuts. Just imagine if you had a bee in your ear or if you had bugs in your hair and you had no hands...what would you do? Shake your head like a mad man. Well, that's what Abby was doing. But alas, no vomit. She just licked her lips as if she had eaten a tasty treat. So instead of giving her more salt, I tried the finger down the throat. Hey, if it works on people, it should work on dogs, right? Well, it didn't. I think she got mad because she bit down on my finger. What to do now? Well, we tried another dose of salt and another gagging, but that resilient dog still wouldn't budge..i.e. PUKE! So we decided to use the hydrogen peroxide. We pried her mouth open and poured the peroxide down her throat. Of course she spat about half of it out and did her head shaking thing. We gave up after that because we thought we've probably put her through enough torture. We would just watch her through the night to make sure there wasn't any change of behavior. (well, her behavior had already changed because her mom and dad tried 3 times to make her vomit by shoving stuff down her throat...your behavior would change too) But the power of prayer always works..because Karen said a prayer to herself and VIOLA! Abby threw up not once, not twice, but thrice! Nice little disgusting piles of dog food on our floor. We cheered her on as if she had done an amazing trick. Anyways, the night of vomit was not over because we thought "hey..she threw up all her food...she must be hungry. Let's give her more food". Well, we did...and then she threw up again later that night. But at least we had the peace of mind that everything in her stomach, good and bad, was no longer there. Sigh..it's tough being a dog..poor poor Abby. Here's a picture for your enjoyment.
Once again, we are just not too great with the updates. Oh well! We've had a busy summer so far. I finished a whirlwind of a semester and then we joined friends to celebrate Jane and Ping's wedding in San Diego in May. I worked all through June at the clinic and am finally free to rest and recuperate for a couple of weeks before school starts yet again. We recently moved closer into the city which is a true blessing to us! No more days of stressed out driving for me!
We got to spend lots of time with family and friends and are happy to post some updated pictures from the beginning of the year! Enjoy!
Sigh...it's been 3 days since the Rockets lost game 7 against the Jazz...and I think it's finally soaked in. I really thought we were going to win that game, especially when we were up by 5pts with only a few minutes to go. Owell..it's just a game right? (if you saw me that night, you would have thought my life depended on the Rockets winning the game). The Dream...we miss you! :)
So I'm watching game 6 between the Mavs and the Warriors (my poor Rockets lost tonight but they're going to end the series with a win on Saturday in Houston!) and the Warriors have just gone on a 15-0 run. Score = 77-57..Golden State. And what is the league's MVP front-runner's line tonight? Dirk Nowitski - 1 for 11, 0-5 3pt, 4 pts. I'm definitely not a Mavs fan but it's tough to see a guy who played so well during the regular season totally collapse in the most vital game in their season. Oh..it's now 80-57. Ok...we'll see what happens. 1 more quarter to go.

i'm loving the dallas v. houston trash talk. Go Rockets! The Mavs suck! read more
